![]() To that end, we’ve also made the Quick Menu smaller, so that you can keep one eye on your game while your adjust settings or managing your chat party. Not only this, as games on PS4 become ever more connected, the ability to pause during play is not something that can always be relied on. RestyledĪlong with the rest of the PS4 user interface we’ve overhauled the look and feel of the Quick Menu to make it fresher and easier to read. Our approach to re-designing PS4 ‘Quick Menu’ included in the recent 4.0 System Update has been guided by the same philosophy – quite literally! Let’s take a closer look. From adding new features to refining and expanding on the ones already available, our ongoing mission has always been the same: to make our players the very centre of the experience.Īchieving this has meant listening closely to what you guys have to say: about the things you love, the things you’d like to see and things you want more of. Sony has announced some features of the new Sony Entertainment Network, including the fact that the friend limit will be increasing from 100 (the current limit) to 2,000.Over the past three years we’ve made a lot of updates to the way your PlayStation 4 works. Both the design and feel draw parallels to the recently updated PlayStation Network Store on PS3, the web based store front, along with the Xbox Dashboard. Sony previewed their vision for the future PlayStation 4 User Interface (or UI) that will replace the PS3 XMB (XCross Media Bar) during the PlayStation 2013 Meeting. At this time, the PS Store is also missing sections such as: Minis, PS One classics and PS2 classics, as well as dynamic wallpapers and avatars. However, once the upgraded game has finished downloading on the PS4, the corresponding PS3 disc must be inserted every time the user wishes to play the upgraded game. For those that have purchased a PS3 copy of a game that is available as a next-gen version, you can easily upgrade to next-gen for ten US dollars by redeeming a code (found inside the game case) in the PlayStation Store. The most noticeable improvement to the PlayStation Store on the PS4 is that it loads much faster than on the PS3. The updated PlayStation Store is much like the PS3's and feels very familiar. In a game like Killzone: Shadow Fall, you will be given two options (Campaign or Multiplayer) to choose which side of the game to install first, giving you initial access to that portion while the rest downloads in the background. This will allow the user to take in what the game has to offer while the game downloads onto the hard drive. Quick play options will greet the first-time user who must install the selected game. Holding down the PlayStation button will bring up the usual suspects of options, such as turning off the specific controller you are using, putting the device into sleep mode, or shutting down the whole console itself. Everything is grouped together to avoid a frantic search for specific system settings and options. Those of you who have played a PlayStation 3 will recognize many of the options listed in these menus, but smaller, more concise text allows for more options to be displayed on the screen at once. Pressing Up on the DualShock 4 will bring you to another menu screen, where familiar icons and text will greet you. It's smooth, fast and a good alternative when gaming. The web browser is leaps ahead of the PS3's browser. Apps are not interchangable and cannot be put in order of what you want, instead what you are running. The click of a button will take you from the action of your favorite game directly to a menu to select many other options, though two applications cannot currently run simultaneously. Moving between games or applications is a breeze via the PlayStation 4 UI with the exception of a couple of bugs, giving gamers and media buffs a seamless way to browse through the options on the PlayStation Home screen. Unlike the PlayStation 3 UI, the PlayStation 4 UI prioritizes the gaming and social aspects of the system.
